%20for%20tasks%20like%20dimensionality%20reduction%2C%20representation%20learning%20and%20data%20generation%2C%20they%20remain%20vulnerable%20to%20adversarial%20attacks.%20Variational%20Autoencoders%20(VAEs)%2C%20with%20their%20probabilistic%20approach%20to%20disentangling%20latent%20spaces%2C%20show%20stronger%20resistance%20to%20such%20perturbations%20compared%20to%20deterministic%20AEs%3B%20however%2C%20their%20resilience%20against%20adversarial%20inputs%20is%20still%20a%20concern.%20This%20study%20evaluates%20the%20robustness%20of%20VAEs%20against%20non-targeted%20adversarial%20attacks%20by%20optimizing%20minimal%20sample-specific%20perturbations%20to%20cause%20maximal%20damage%20across%20diverse%20demographic%20subgroups%20(combinations%20of%20age%20and%20gender).%20We%20investigate%20two%20questions:%20whether%20there%20are%20robustness%20disparities%20among%20subgroups%2C%20and%20what%20factors%20contribute%20to%20these%20disparities%2C%20such%20as%20data%20scarcity%20and%20representation%20entanglement.%20Our%20findings%20reveal%20that%20robustness%20disparities%20exist%20but%20are%20not%20always%20correlated%20with%20the%20size%20of%20the%20subgroup.%20By%20using%20downstream%20gender%20and%20age%20classifiers%20and%20examining%20latent%20embeddings%2C%20we%20highlight%20the%20vulnerability%20of%20subgroups%20like%20older%20women%2C%20who%20are%20prone%20to%20misclassification%20due%20to%20adversarial%20perturbations%20pushing%20their%20representations%20toward%20those%20of%20other%20subgroups.)
