%20when%20training%20with%20increasingly%20larger%20model%20backbones%20and%20microscopy%20datasets.%20Our%20results%20show%20that%20ViT-based%20MAEs%20outperform%20weakly%20supervised%20classifiers%20on%20a%20variety%20of%20tasks%2C%20achieving%20as%20much%20as%20a%2011.5%25%20relative%20improvement%20when%20recalling%20known%20biological%20relationships%20curated%20from%20public%20databases.%20Additionally%2C%20we%20develop%20a%20new%20channel-agnostic%20MAE%20architecture%20(CA-MAE)%20that%20allows%20for%20inputting%20images%20of%20different%20numbers%20and%20orders%20of%20channels%20at%20inference%20time.%20We%20demonstrate%20that%20CA-MAEs%20effectively%20generalize%20by%20inferring%20and%20evaluating%20on%20a%20microscopy%20image%20dataset%20(JUMP-CP)%20generated%20under%20different%20experimental%20conditions%20with%20a%20different%20channel%20structure%20than%20our%20pretraining%20data%20(RPI-93M).%20Our%20findings%20motivate%20continued%20research%20into%20scaling%20self-supervised%20learning%20on%20microscopy%20data%20in%20order%20to%20create%20powerful%20foundation%20models%20of%20cellular%20biology%20that%20have%20the%20potential%20to%20catalyze%20advancements%20in%20drug%20discovery%20and%20beyond.)
