%20conditional%20generation%20have%20seen%20tremendous%20success%20recently.%20Despite%20their%20success%2C%20accurately%20capturing%20user%20intentions%20with%20these%20models%20still%20requires%20a%20laborious%20trial%20and%20error%20process.%20This%20challenge%20is%20commonly%20identified%20as%20a%20model%20alignment%20problem%2C%20an%20issue%20that%20has%20attracted%20considerable%20attention%20by%20the%20research%20community.%20Instead%20of%20relying%20on%20fine-grained%20linguistic%20analyses%20of%20prompts%2C%20human%20annotation%2C%20or%20auxiliary%20vision-language%20models%20to%20steer%20image%20generation%2C%20in%20this%20work%20we%20present%20a%20novel%20method%20that%20relies%20on%20an%20information-theoretic%20alignment%20measure.%20In%20a%20nutshell%2C%20our%20method%20uses%20self-supervised%20fine-tuning%20and%20relies%20on%20point-wise%20mutual%20information%20between%20prompts%20and%20images%20to%20define%20a%20synthetic%20training%20set%20to%20induce%20model%20alignment.%20Our%20comparative%20analysis%20shows%20that%20our%20method%20is%20on-par%20or%20superior%20to%20the%20state-of-the-art%2C%20yet%20requires%20nothing%20but%20a%20pre-trained%20denoising%20network%20to%20estimate%20MI%20and%20a%20lightweight%20fine-tuning%20strategy.)
%20and%20speech%20foundation%20models%2C%20state%20of%20the%20art%20speech-text%20bimodal%20works%20can%20achieve%20challenging%20tasks%20like%20spoken%20translation(ST)%20and%20question%20answering(SQA)%20altogether%20with%20much%20simpler%20architectures.%20In%20this%20paper%2C%20we%20utilize%20the%20capability%20of%20Whisper%20encoder%20and%20pre-trained%20Yi-6B.%20Empirical%20results%20reveal%20that%20modal%20alignment%20can%20be%20achieved%20with%20one%20layer%20module%20and%20hundred%20hours%20of%20speech-text%20multitask%20corpus.%20We%20further%20swap%20the%20Yi-6B%20with%20human%20preferences%20aligned%20version%20of%20Yi-6B-Chat%20during%20inference%2C%20and%20discover%20that%20the%20alignment%20capability%20is%20applicable%20as%20well.%20In%20addition%2C%20the%20alignment%20subspace%20revealed%20by%20singular%20value%20decomposition(SVD)%20also%20implies%20linear%20alignment%20subspace%20is%20sparse%2C%20which%20leaves%20the%20possibility%20to%20concatenate%20other%20features%20like%20voice-print%20or%20video%20to%20expand%20modality.)
